Katerina Bakulina is an artist and poet born in 1986 in Almaty. Her creative nature was shaped in the multinational environment of Kazakhstan, at the intersection of diverse cultural traditions. Despite her early immersion in art, influenced by her family environment, the turning point in her professional development came when she visited the Sistine Chapel in Rome, which awakened a lasting interest in painting and determined her professional calling. For more than f ifteen years, Katerina Bakulina devoted herself to the systematic study of various artistic techniques, including painting, graphic art, sculpture, and mosaics.

Living for many years in Dubai, surrounded by Arab architecture grounded in the principles of sacred geometry, had a significant influence on the artist’s work. In addition, research trips across Asia and Europe in the fields of culture and archaeology contributed to broadening her worldview and enriching the diversity of her visual expression.

Today, Katerina Bakulina’s works represent complex visual codes that draw upon the archaic symbols of various peoples, shedding light on the artist’s perception of time. This has resulted in a unique artistic and plastic language that combines traditional painting techniques with other types of visual art. Each work becomes a space for dialogue between the earthly and the divine, between individual experience and collective memory. The image of a bird occupies a central place in Katerina’s work, functioning as a multifaceted metaphor for the limitations and possibilities of the human life journey. On the one hand, the bird personifies freedom and spiritual transcendence of boundaries, and on the other, it acts as a marker of identity. Since 2021, the artist has been working in Costa Rica, where she continues to develop her artistic language. It was here that she created her first digital works, which helped to diversify her artistic practice.

In parallel with her paintings, Katerina Bakulina writes poetry in Russian. She has been awarded medals named after Anton Chekhov, Anna Akhmatova, and Ivan Bunin for her contribution to the development of Russian culture and literature.

Katerina Bakulina's artworks are held in private collections in Europe, the USA, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Russia, Costa Rica, and the United Arab Emirates.
